The ticking time bomb of the Greek crisis exploded across the media in December of 2009. Following the collapse of Lehman Brothers the previous year and a tightening of inter bank lending, the event known as “the Credit Crunch” that had dominated the media previously gave way to the problems of the Greek governments’ ballooning debt. Greece at the time with a population of around 10 million and a GDP per capita of approximately 24,000 USD could be compared to the US state of Louisiana with half the population but double the GDP.
